The Eritrean Seaman Union (ESU) has successfully completed its official registration in the UK.This recognition allows the ESU to expand its operations and collaborate more effectively with both governmental and non-governmental organizations worldwide. Additionally, it positions the Union as a key link between Eritrean seafarers and the Western maritime sector development, serving as a central hub for its core members, particularly those based in the Gulf Arab countries.

The Union identifies Eritreans in exile with maritime backgrounds, particularly traditional sailors from regions like Afar and Danakil. By offering guidance, it helps them integrate into the maritime sectors of their host countries, preserving their traditional skills while expanding the Union’s influence through its recent UK registration.

Additionally, as a key focus, the Union encourages Eritrean refugees to consider the maritime field as a top choice for pursuing education in areas like nautical science and marine engineering, which are crucial for Eritrea’s future development. Our registration in the UK, a nation with a rich maritime tradition, boosts our global credibility and provides Eritrean seafarers with access to world-class training and opportunities. This prepares them to integrate into the global maritime industry and, when conditions in Eritrea become favorable for their return, to contribute to the nation’s development along the Red Sea, playing a vital role in building its maritime infrastructure.

With its UK registration as a central hub, the Union is expanding its efforts to promote maritime sectors and protect seafarers’ rights in exile, marking a new phase in its mission.
